Have you heard of Capture Your 365? It's a website/community/concept that encourages you to appreciate the everyday details of your life by documenting what you see around you day to day. Along the way you pick up photography skills and inspiration from other members of the community.
Life changes, sometimes slowly and sometimes quickly. If you only ever photograph birthdays and big events you're missing out on the details that really define what your life was like at a particular time. I have a beautiful walk to work, but one day I'll move house and my scenic commute will be a thing of the past. I know I'll appreciate the photos I've taken throughout the changing seasons of the year, and of my life.
With the improvements in mobile phone technology capturing your everyday photos is even easier and more satisfying. I've recently acquired an iPhone and this is what prompted me to jump on the CY365 train. I'm posting one photo a day to Instagram with the hashtag #cy365. You can follow my progress here.
Capture Your 365 was set up by the lovely and talented Katrina Kennedy. Every month Katrina releases a prompt list to inspire daily photography. For now I'm just trying to build the habit of taking a photo a day, but once I'm into the swing of it I plan to use the monthly list for inspiration. It's free to take part, so head over to Katrina's website to check it out! And even if you don't want to take up the challenge I'd highly recommend subscribing to the daily email prompts. Every day you'll receive a beautiful example of how to interpret that day's prompt along with a concise but powerful photography tip. Little lessons to improve your photography day by day :-)
